MR-4BC Special “Hybrid”(Pg 1 of 4)

A couple of guys have been experimenting with a hybrid car, using parts from the MX-4 (the old competition buggy), the MR-4TC Special (the latest competition version of the touring car), and, of course, the MR-4BC. Those converting from the MX-4 will notice a much bigger difference in the cars performance (due to the shorter wheelbase and the more centralised weight distribution), but it’s a nice example of how the three cars share parts (the MR-4 series was developed from the basic MX-4 platform). Yokomo have now released a production MR-4BC Special, however it has more in common with the “Worlds” TC.

Parts You Would Need If Starting With An MX-4

This is just one way of putting the car together (this list may not be 100% accurate or complete)...

From the MX4...
Front Bulkhead, Shock Tower, and Suspension
Rear Bulkhead and Suspension
Diffs
Rear Belt (if using MX-4 layshaft and slipper)
Wheel Hubs, Driveshafts, Wheels and Tyres
Shocks
Body and Undertray

From the MR4-TC Special Conversion Kit...
Chassis, Upper Deck, Battery Strap
Motor Mount
Centre One Way (would need narrow rear belt)
(you will end up with a lot of unused parts, but in the UK Yokomo spares are so expensive it makes sense to buy the full conversion - you can always sell the TC spares)

Other Parts...
MR-4BC Long Wheelbase Conversion (ZS-LWC)
MR-4 Front Belt (ZS-537/ZS-537B)
MR-4 Narrow Rear Belt (ZS-132S/ZS-132B) (if using one-way)
MR-4BC Rear Shock Tower (ZS-017B)

Comments...
To convert from a BC would need no MX-4 parts, except for the body, unless you can survive without an undertray. The Worlds conversion kit contains a wide chassis, but it’s basic layout is the same, losing the benefits of the Special’s narrow and lower weight distribution.
